Dancing Voltage Gauge

I'm starting to think maybe the voltage regulator (Built into the Alt, right?) is a little bit nuts... Yesterday I noticed that when I'm running past 4,000 RPM the voltage gauge and only the voltage gauge begins to rapidly dance...Assuming the tick between 12 and 16 is 14volts, that's where it stays when driving around.

I'd really prefer I didn't melt any wiring, fry any electrical bits or set fire to my vehicle when I am really squeezing every last mediocre horsepower out of the engine...

The needle doesn't really rise past 14 volts or whathaveyou, but it does dance just above and below that notch in the gauge rapidly at high engine speeds.
