Damn Emissions!

87 TII
I want to gut my cats then remove the air pump and other emissions crap, one problem i live in california. I was told that all of california required emissions but i though i read that there were a couple places that didn't require it, can anyone verify that? Any suggestions on what i can do to get around this or am i stuck and can't have any fun with removing all that stuff??

Think i would be able to get away with removing the cats and putting on a presilencer or something so it might look like a cat and just leave my air pump in there? Then in 2 years when i need to get it smogged i can throw the cats back on? Any suggestions are very appreciated as i am very unfamilar with smog and emission laws.Thanks.

I don't live in Cali, but I do live in Texas and I have a downpipe and midpipe on my 88 t2. It didn't pass, infact it failed horribly, Right now I'm getting my airpump and main cat put back on. With the air pump and main cat on it should pass fine. Inspections here are always smog tested so everytime i'd have to put this stuff back on. I hope this helps some, either way you can do one or the other, but if you gut the cats and stuff you will have to put the stuff back on to pass the smog test, or find a place that dosn't care, or just go to a normal shop to do it and just try to slip in a few extra bills to see if he will reconsider. Good luck.

If you remove the Air Pump, you violate all emission standards that your state dictates.

If you remove It, you could look forward to a chain effect of removing parts. ie Air Pump, Air Control Valve, Split Air Pipe, Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve and Cat.

As you know, Cali has the strictest set of rules, In regards to smog. It's that simple...It's your call.
