dam you suspension

So I am in the middle of putting on polyurethane bushings right now, and I hit a snag. The rod that is connected from the rear subframe to the control arm is stuck in lol. Sorry for not knowing what it is called exactly but it has ball joints on either end of it. I used pb blaster, hammer, torch on it then hammer some more. If this has happened to anyone else before can I get some help as I am new to suspension work.

Thanks,
Dale

are you referring to #10 on here

i haven't removed this myself, but if its anything like a tie rod / ball joint removal it'll be a pain. a tip i got from a mechanic for these types of joints is to hammer all around the socket into which it is inserted. the vibration from hammering unseizes the joint. after that one strong hit on the tip should pop it out.

I had to hit mine with a 5lb lump hammer about 30 times to get it out. Hit it harder with a BFH.

Hit the stud that sticks out with either a large brass/copper headed hammer or use a brass/copper punch and a steel hammer. DO NOT hit the threaded end with a steel hammer. You will screw up the thread.

An alternative is to screw on a junk nut so the threads are slightly recessed and then hit the nut with a steel hammer. Hit it freakin' hard too. I've used this on countless tie rod ends and ball joints.

I would only hit on the side of the mating piece if it was beefy like a steering knuckle. This also works. I have done it.
