CV Joint: can't find part?!

I have searched the forums and on the web for this, but I get stupid results, including posts about what kind of weed to smoke, and how to get a loan?! Methinks the search is a little screwed up.

I have two problems, one is that I can't seem to find a price or anything on new CV joints. I have a little click in the CV joint and want to replace it before it causes more problems. Trouble is, Autozone thinks the part doesn't exist, NAPA thinks my car doesn't exist, and the local Checker couldn't find it either. This can't possibly be! Please help! (I really don't want to go to the Mazda dealer for something simple like this)

The other problem is, I'm not sure how long the previous owner drove around with the bad CV joint, and I'm not sure if I should replace the whole axle assembly or what? Any advice? (On my Subaru it was cheaper to replace the whole deal, and the axles were fried from driving about 5000 miles on the bad CV joints)

I need to drive about a thousand highway miles in December so I need to get this fixed first, or there will be no Christmas

They rarely go bad... you could easily and safely replace it with a used one without worry.

I can get you the mazda P/N and a price if you want. I need year and model.

Do these parts come with the half shafts, or the cv joints only? can you order both?

Can you give us pricing for the NA/TII models for S4?

This one did! I'm not a big fan of used parts. Even if it's twice or 3 times the money, a new one is worth it most of the time for most parts. I fully intend to race this car in SCCA Solo II, so I want solid stuff on it. I totally wrecked my Subaru doin SCCA Rally (which I fully expected), but better parts would have helped.

This is on an 87 RX-7 non-turbo. I am not sure if it's GL (GLC?) or whatever, and don't know how to tell, because the original owners manual and stuff is long gone. Do you know of anyone besides the dealer which would carry this part? I'm pretty sure I can get it from the dealer, but they're gonna charge too much. Here in town we have CarQuest, NAPA, Checker, and Autozone. The last three didn't have it, and the CarQuest guy was seriously confused cuz it wouldn't come up on his computer. The closest Mazda dealer is 40 miles away in the next town.

It will be pricey from the dealer and if you replace one, might as well replace both. Personally, I would buy a couple of used ones from a low milage 7 and save what the dealer cost would be for other parts you will need.

If you are worried about breaking a used one, look into doing a TII driveline swap. It would be less expensive in the long run. An NA isn't going to tear up a TII diff and halfshafts.

Go to any transmission shop, they can get rebuilt CV axles
www.speedmachineperformance.com has upgraded shafts available.
Autozone and Advanced Auto also carry them
