Custom FC Rear Hatch Cover Discussion (Example Included)
After searching, I found only two meaningful threads on the subject over the entire forum:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...om+hatch+cover
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...om+hatch+cover
I made this cover well over a year ago, but then I got a deal on an original one. Unfortunately, the factory one is again deteriorating inside where the hinge points are located. I'm thinking of doing some more work on my custom hatch cover or starting over and making a new one.
Here is my list of materials:
1/4 inch birch plywood (smooth)
1x2 inch oak strips (very strong)
Lots of wood glue
Replacement interior carpet (Walmart, etc)
Staple gun and staples
Jig saw to cut the wood
Scissors to cut the carpet
Drill and screws to mount the hinge points, handle, and lift cords
I may not get right to this modification as I am in the middle of preparing my house for sale, but I welcome any opinions and ideas on the project. I suppose I could also post dimensions and offer to mail out a template for the shape if other owners want to build their own.
Has anyone else done this?

Here are some pictures of the custom hatch cover installed.
I want to at least cover the bottom with carpet, so you can't tell what it's made of.
Also, I have not decided if I like the speaker grilles exposed or covered.

I like the looks, It would hide my apartment I tote with me, LOL..
I'd pay for a template to be mailed with instructions on how you built and mounted it!
PM me if you decide...
Thanks

that looks great and i am sure a lot of people would pay for a DIY instruction/materials list, i would but the only exception is that it wouldn't work for people who don't have the tray speaker grille covers. i was interested in doing something like this as well but i really would need the speaker grilles to not be covered and the pivot issue for non updated speaker covers resolved.
