custom driveshaft anyone??
does anyone here know a shop that will make a custom driveshaft that will fit into the tII tranny, and will bolt to the na differential? If anyone CAN do this, there are some big bucks to be made on this forum for all the na=>tII freaks who dont want to go through the whole rearend swap. also..
1. Will the GTUs rear diff gears fit into a normal NA pumpkin, or does the whole unit need to be replaced.
2. Are the 4.30 ratio rear gears (that the GTUs has) Limited slip, or open diff...because they can be bought online at one of the major rx7 stores..(forgot which one).

The 4.3 gears that those stores sell(Racing Beat,Mazdatrix,RP)sell are just the gears not the differential. They replace the gears that are in the rear end.The diferential is what is limited slip or not.Two different things. The diferential in the GTUs was a Limited slip diff with 4.3 gears.Hope this clears it up.Oh I have heard the auto driveshaft will fit but some say it is too short. The dimensions in the FSM come up about an inch shorter than the TII driveshaft.
Auto driveshafts work on n/a's...I know, my 90 GTU has an auto driveshaft. I dont think it will work on a TII. I think someone got confused about it. The auto driveshaft is the same diameter as the TII shaft, which is bigger than the n/a one. But it is the same length and has the same ends as the n/a driveshaft.
You can re-drill the diff flange on a TII driveshaft to bolt onto the n/a diff. Just put the driveshaft on, and it centers itself. Then just drill the holes, and youre ready to go.

Oh boy, I'm going to start my own rumor... I hear that the oil dipstick from a 92 Mustang will work as a driveshaft replacement for the NA RX-7.
Here are some pictures for those who have trouble reading the driveshaft specs in the factory service manual:

But yeah, im trying to find a 'temp' solution to a TII swap w/ tranny but not dish out an extra 500 or so bucks for a tII LSD, Axles, subframe, and installation. I wouldnt mind getting a 'custom' driveshaft to fit the TII tranny to the NA diff...because i know it wouldnt be hard to sell on here.
MazdaSpeed: Is the only REAL problem with the TII stock driveshaft is that the flange has a different bolt pattern? if so...your idea would save me $$...money which i could use to buy carbon fiber! lol
Jeff
edit: after looking at Evils page for idiots and very large pictures, it lookes like the TII driveshaft has a larger flange than the NA, so it looks like it'd be easier to drill the TII flange to meet the NA diff, then use the stock holes when a TII diff makes its way in there. The NA is also thinner, so i'd feel safer w/ a larger diameter shaft (mazda made it bigger for a reason...).
