Question Custom CAI: Which silicone couplers?

I'm in the process of massing all of the parts I need for my CAI project (apexi intake, prelude intake kit, hks adapter, etc) and the next item on my list is silicone couplers. I've heard good things about Hose Techniques, so I was checking out their website and came across THIS :

http://www.hosetechniques.com/catalo...Gloss%20Finish

At first glance it looks like a huge mess, but I know I need 3" I.D. and 3" long, but there are several different kinds, i.e. straight or transition. Which do I need?

Also, how many do I need to buy? According to the writeup on nopistons.com, http://www.nopistons.com/forums/inde...&hl=custom+CAI , I only need two. I'd like to get it right the first time, though.

Thanks

I'm looking at about $25 + shipping for a foot of this stuff and the couplers are individually priced at $11, so it depends on how many I need.

you need 3
However the black couplers seem to be bigger than 3". I heard you can fit 3" couplers in there tho so I am not sure.
You should measure the size and get the appropriate couplers.

So it looks like I'll be needed 6 clamps and 3 couplers, but isn't the critical coupler, as far as outside diameter is concerned, the one that attaches everything to the TB?

this is how im seeing that picture...

INTAKE <coupler> PIPE 1 <coupler> AFM <coupler> PIPE 2 <coupler> THROTTLE BODY

correct me if im wrong. i have heard of many using only 3 couplers but if they are that probly means they're not couting the coupler that connects to the intake filter. i got 4 sitting in my living room with 8 clamps. if i'll need them all is yet to be determined. im looking for a 3" inner diameter footlong tube of silicone tubing on ebay to cut into however long pieces i need as they are thinner and generally better looking. i went to home depot today to ask for some but the guy told me "thats too advanced for DIY home improvement, we only have the rubber PVC couplers" (which is what i have for now) lol... you pay a little more though.

and yes you're right about the coupler at the TB... it will be a tad snug fitting it around the black TB hard tubing, compared to fitting it around the prelude piping. with a little elbow grease you'll get it on and hopefully i will too. here is a helpful link by the way - thanks to dDub for helping me out on my questions...

Some cone filters have built in coupler/attachment parts to go onto the pipe, so depending on what kind of filter you have will depend if you need 3 or 4 or whatever.

...just to share...

Go to an autoparts store, especially a farmer's type place, and tell them you need 3" ID radiator tubing. It'll be either neoprene or fiber reinforced silicone, both of which are stronger than silicone couplers. It's also cheaper...like $2~5 a foot. This is what I used.

Also, if you go to the right place, you can get black or red.

while we're on the subject, where would one buy a new gasket for the AFM? its a paper type one it seems, mine is stuck to the AFM and in 2 pieces. i was about to install the HKS intake adapter that i got with my filter, but i ended up not using it because i didnt have another gasket to put on it, the old one is trashed. i'd like to swap out the old intake adapter (previous owner had a cone filter on it so i have two filter adapters, the one on my car now and the HKS one) for the HKS one but with a new gasket too... silly question but would the orange RTV gasket in a tube work? the same stuff i used for my oil pan.

Go to schucks/parts america and buy a roll of gasket material. Trace the part you need the gasket on onto the roll, cut out, and ur golden.
