Cruse control works when it wants to?
i did a search and nothing much came up. but my Cruse control only works when it wants to, would this be just the switch or the actually unit under the hood?

Probably the switch itself. IF you look carefully at the stalk of the switch, on the front side (front as in looking fwd in the car), there is a access plate on the stalk held with one tiny screw. IF removed you'll see a set of contackts there that are made when the button on the end of the switch is pushed. They MIGHT be corroded/not making good contact.
Another scenario is if the brake or clutch pedal switch is making when it should not. Making those switches put 12v on the computer to kick the cruise out of cruise.

I don't know what a actually unit is. Got me.
The actuators for the cruise control are pretty much bullet proof and I'd suspect that last.
