cruise control removal
cruise control removal
i never use my cruise control. ever. i am in the process of cleaning the engine bay of anything i dont need. p/s and a/c already bit the dust... anyone got a writeup or anything on a complete cruise control removal? i dont want to start pulling crap out and end up with warning buzzers and a broken throttle...
like do i totally remove the cruise control throttle linkage from the TB or do i just unhook the cable? etc etc... little nuances...
thanks

The cruise control throttle cable runs from the unit on the passenger side next to the charcoal canister. Remove that cable and the part it comes from with the stuff associated/attached to it.
Then the cruise control computer is under the driver side of the dash against the far side kinda near the fuses and ****.
That's all you should really need to remove it, it's not hard.

The cable runs from the cruise control unit to a bracket on the throttle body. Back off the jamnuts on that bracket and lift the cable out of the bracket. Now you have SLACK in the cable and you should be able to remove the very end of the cable from the throttle bellcrank by jiggling it around.
Pull the vacuum line off and put a vacuum cap on the metal nipple where the vacuum line connected to the intake manifold. No cap available?? The cut a one inch part of the vacuum line off and fill one end with RTV and install the OTHER end on the intake manifolds metal nipple. Let it dry/setup for an hour or two before running the engine.
Unbolt the actuator from the chassis. Lefty lucy. Unplug the actuator from the harness. Send it to me for the cost of mailing it (US POSTAL service will do), along with the cruise control unit inside the car. Oh, throw in the switch on the dash while your at it. I'll send you the *close out* panel for the dash so you won't have a empty hole where the cruise switch was. Free. With attach screws.
No codes or other malady will occur if the cruise is disabled. Other than the ones your experiencing already.
