Crossroads of buying an FC Turbo II or N/a
Well right now I have a 86 base RX-7 in mind and it has a body flaw on the driver side and the car will most likely need to be repainted. The car other than that spot looks fairly good.. 170,000 miles on the body, with a new engine inside of it. Now the guy is only charging around $750 for it and I might talk him down some, but my general consensus is that I might go ahead and buy it and then buy a Turbo II later in the summer.. I figure though I might not buy the n/a and just hold over the $750.00 and use it towards a Turbo II in the next month or 2 rather than 4 or 5 months. The only problem I'm not sure what the going rate on a 87 Turbo II with a good condition body and maybe 80 - 100k miles go for. So I thought I'd just try and get your guys opinions on this buy before I jump on this deal in haste...

JUST WAIT AND BUY A T2!!! you will be so much happier. i have an 86 N/A and i have done almost everything you can do to make it fast, i.e: cone filter, header, high flow cat, single exhaust and even a 75 shot of nitrous and it will never be as fast as a T2 with the same mods done to it. my car was given to me as a b-day present, but i wish my bro would have known about T2's at the time he bought the car for me. plus you will get to buy a bad *** blow off valve for your turbo. GO WITH THE TURBO!!!

The only wat I would take a N/A over a TII is if i was going to do a N/A turbo convertion. That in itself is a major pain. The amount of money you'll spend to fix up an N/A you could get a nice TII and have some left over for mods.

I say go N/A if: you like a good handling, light, quick car that's reliable.
Go TII if: you like being able to burn people in a straight-away and being able to top out in the mid 100's.
Personally, I'd rather race people on a road course than a drag strip.

$750 is a good deal on a base 7. I've had both (still have the n/a). The n/a is more reliable and gets better mileage. It's quick and handles great. The TII is faster (by far) but isn't as reliable. You'll sink more cash into either fixing up the problems it has or modifying if. It's a money pit. It also sucks gas quick. I highly recommend
I would get a TII instead, but $750 bucks with a new motor is tempting. Good luck on your decision.

i would have got'en a T2 if i could have found one. 7's seem to be rare in my area, and all the ones i could find either had tons of miles, was some kids play thing or both. So i waited a little and a close to mint, trouble free 50,000 mile s5 N/A showed up and thats what i got.
i say get the best condition car you can find, either it be a T2 or an N/A. you dont want to get a super high mile car and be fixing it all the time.

I would go for the N/a
Personaly I want a TII but it is hard enough to keep up with maintenance on my N/a i have already spent over 4k including the cost of the car. A GOOD TII is like 3-6k from what I have seen go on ebay. I got my car for 2k in ok condition I could have gotten it down to 1500 but it was a freind that I bought it from. 7-800 is a ******* badass deal not to mention it is a BASE model which is light *** ****. I would not want a TII as a daily driver for mileage, maintenance costs, the complexity of the thing, and how much does a new turbo cost? like a grand sorry not for every day use IMO. My N/a is fast enough to burn rice and some faster cars like stangs and camaros and the like. I would get both. N/a=every day TII=weekend warrior.

Where the hell does everyone out there keep finding these cheap Sevens??? Around here, if you find one for less that 2K (N/A) or 4k (TII) is is JUNK. No wonder I had to go to Maryland to get mine!!!

I have an n/a. it was fun, but when it came time for a new engine, i found the idea of boost tempting, and now im faced with either selling my motorless n/a (which wont make much money) or just converting it to T2 driveline
If i would of known how i feel now back when i was buying a car, i would of held out for the T2

Depends on how much money you have and the condition you want it in. I could have bought a TII, but not a great condition one and will probably be spending more money to fix the other minor problems. Plus, they're super rare.
I bought an NA instead. They're plentiful and I paid $2700 for mines. 70K miles on original engine, perfect interior, perfect exterior, and an awesome, still shiny paint. It may not be fast as a TII but I have a whole lot less to worry about and just concentrate on having a fun drive.
Given the choice if I could have found a mint, low mile TII, I would go for the TII in a heartbeat.

Go TII, most ppl like all that power, but I am happy with my NA. It has plenty of enough power to get my into trouble with the Law, and it handles really well. And for the person that I am, if I had bought a TII, I would rarely drive it cuz I would be modding all the time.

Get a TII. I would personally love to have a TII but they are semi-rare in my area and I didnt have much money when I was shopping for my first car. An N/a cant take a turbo in the corners PERIOD. The TII is heavier but is also equipped with better wheels, brakes, and tires.

I am sick of the "TII hauls *** in a straight line" and "NA of you wanna road race".
TII's do everything an NA does, only faster...plain and simple. The reliability angle only comes into play if you start modding it carelessly.
I say the choice is yours, but for my money, TII is the only way to go.

Yo,
It's easy, it really comes down to:
Money.
If you've got money to burn, get a TII.
If you don't, get an NA.
