crazy starter isuss

crazy starter isuss

well i have a 87 rx7 n/a pretty much all stock becids streetport and headers, well today i went to the gas station filled it up the got in the car pushed the clutch down and tryed to start all the gages started to move but when i turned the key all the way nothin happend but the starter started to spin freely (kinda sounded like a electric fan) but when i turned it off and removed the key the starter contunerd to run so i poped the hood and unhooked the batter it stoped ofcourse but as soon as i hook up the batter it runs but does not try to engage ,at first i jest thought my starter went out be why would it run with the car off? so i push started the car and i drove it 3 miles home will the whole way home it ran kinda bad and would not idel it would jest stall well after 3 ppush starts i got it home and unhooked the batter and now i am puzzeld please some one beable to help me

most likely one of the + wires touched the solenoid or the sarter its self//

all it was was the ground wire came off

hey what ground wire was off?? My starter is doing the same thing when I connect the battery cables, just continuously spins.

its the wire that snps on the senoild on the starter really small\

^ That's the wire from the ignition switch that activates the solenoid. It's not a ground. The starter and solenoid both ground through their cases to the engine/trans. There is no seperate ground wire. I don't know how that small wire coming off could cause the problem you described. With that wire off, the solenoid should not engage, and it's the engaging of the solenoid that causes the starter to spin. The problem you described sounded like the starter drive was bad.
That's a mighty wierd one.

There is a +/ground and then there is a signal wire. well atleast on my car. I dont remember if its a ground that I put there years ago or it came with the car. Looks factory. I dont really remember any other car. Anyways, the removal of the signal wire just removes the ability for you to start your car with the ignition.
