crazy shifting
'86 gxl, 5 speed.
Just picked it up this weekend and having an issue.
Shifting into first and second gear usually grinds the gears. I am unable to shift from 4th to 3rd. I have to skip to second and flip back up to 3rd.
I bled the system and that freed things up a little, but I'm still grinding once in a while. More often then not really. The clutch fluid is black, not your normal clear dot3.
I took it in to have a tranny guy look at it and he says my syncro's are bad. But it's a new clutch and the tranny was bought by a previous owner (wasn't new).
Has anyone expierenced this? Any idea what it might be? I'd love to upgrade the tranny but not having a lot of luck on finding an aftermarket one. Plus why do the work if it's not needed.
any help would be appreciated.

best case scenario would be to rebuild the clutch master & slave cylinders- your local auto parts store should have the kits...if the fluid is black, the seals are probably shot, which may be causing all of your probs...If, after rebuilding them and changing the fluid, the shifting still sucks, then you can start eyeballing the tranny...
