Crazy Brake Light!

I cant seem to figure out why my brake light is on. The brake fluid isnt low and it stops just fine. One of the e-brake cables is missing (rusted off sometime) would that do it??

Push the ebrake handle down all the way and see if it goes off.

I know this is an old thread, but rather than start a new one:

I am having a similar problem with my 88 convertible. Not the brake fluid, the pads are still good. The light comes on and then stays on for a while. Sometimes it goes out or doesn't come on or comes on later. Tends to go out after driving it a while, maybe a coincidence. I think it's electrical. Is there a common problem/fix that I should know of or just start taking it apart now?

There is a brake warning light that comes on when you have a bulb out...is it that one?

Check your brake lights as suggested. Make sure the emergency parking brake is all the way down. Also, pull up and down on the emergency brake and see how this effects the light. And check to see how well the plug behind the dummy lights is connected to the warning light component. Jiggle the individual wires a bit and see how this affects the brake warning light.

Okay, it pretty much has to be electrical, because it's none of those other things. Thank you for the direct responses.

Can be triggered by the level switch in the master cylinder which can go bad. Or the pressure switch could be defective and triggering the idiot light because it thinks you have a leak. But if its the type of switch I think it is sometimes the check ball stick and trigger a light you may try tapping the switch with a hammer when the light comes on. The brake pressure switch is located at the bottom of the master cylinder beside the piston stop screw.
