Crazy Belt burning ....

Today I went to reinstall my air pump for my last ever emissions testing hoopla. Currently i have a FD alternator with an aluminum double sheave pulley, so i had to temporarily remove the front belt off the Alt, to install the air pump for the day. ( i have no AC or PS belts, fyi ) I got everything on and started the engine and the single Alt belt started squealing like a stuck pig. I played around with the tension to try to get it to quit, but no luck. Eventually I removed the air pump belt, and just ran the one single ALT belt to try and diagnose, and the belt ended up getting so hot it smoked a ton and broke.
So... i got two new belts, installed like square one, and these guys are shrieking too, as well as getting very hot. Not sure what i did wrong, but im looking for any advice where to go from here. I was thinking a new pulley or just put a normal FC alt back on.

the alternator is probably fragged and a bearing dragging *** or the field is lit up causing resistance in the alternator overheating it.
check the temp of the alternator, spin it by hand feeling for resistance or rough spots, measure voltage at the battery and check alignment as mentioned.

I would jump in here and say, i forgot to mention. The pulleys and belts were acting 100% normally like 5 minutes before hand... ( before i started messing with the air pump ect )
