crash barrier pain! (and luck)

the other night i was comming home from work after a very scary and eventful day (my college got shot up). Anyways it was raining and i was doing about 50mph taking it easy because of the rain, went on the offramp to go home and all of the sudden i hydroplanned while braking sending the car into a spin. i didnt have many options but luckly i managed to get the car to hit the railing in a way that didnt damage the body too too much:S... how much do you think its going to cost me in body repairs?

Hmm.. it's hard to tell. If you can find a 7 shop somewhere around there they may be able to put a new panel and weld the rocker panel (I don't know if these can bolt off). I don't know much about body work but the car might need a paint job after the repairs if you want it to look good. I would estimate $500 if you can get it cheaply and maybe just paint that portion of the car. I'm sure your car will turn out ok because it looks just cosmetic.
Sorry to hear about your college though. It's a real tragedy.

**** dude thats really unlucky. best of luck with the repairs it doesnt look too bad paint would be the majority of the cost, you could possibly hide some of the damage if you brought some nice side skirts for it.

Yeah, the temptation to hit the brakes when the rear end comes out like that is really high, but it's the wrong thing to do.

Sorry to hear about the rampage at your school.

BTW, your tailpipe looks like the Hello Kitty tip.

oh i know but what happend is i was braking for the corner before actualy entering it and it sent me ino a drift i guess but it was pretty violent i imediatly floored the clutch and lifted off the brakes but by the time i did that (split second) i was already at 90degrees to the road and there wasnt enough counter steer in the world to recover. Maybe if i would have floored it i could have purposly spun the car more and recovered but i just couldent it happend really fast (just like all car accidents). I;m sure there would have been a technique for this situation but i just did what i could.

Braking -> causes weight transfer from rear to front
This will induce oversteer.
It sounds like you basically trail braked into the turn.
With the penchant of the FC to snap oversteer, once the rear ends starts to come around, it is very hard to control it.
...one of the reasons it's difficult to drift the FC in the first place.

go play around on your next local drift day, you'll get a feeling on how when the rear end starts to step out it doesnt easly stop.

Wow, that stinks. I love black FCs.

Just the other night I put my car in a ditch. I was driving down some country road and missed the sign for a huge 90 degree turn. At the time I was going the speed limit - 55 - I took the corner going about 40. I stomped the brakes and they locked up which threw me to the passenger side, then I over-corrected to the driver's side and fishtailed around the road - ended up in the ditch facing the opposite direction I was going. No damage to the car though.

I hope you get it fixed,

thanks, i plan on getting it fixed as soon as i can really, i realize the fc isnt the easiest car to control when its over steering and my worn etss bushings probably didnt help either but being pretty young still i have tooled around in back lots on rainy days trying to get a feel for my car. One thing i have noticed is when i upgraded my tires i gained a lot of grip but when you lose traction its much more suden and harder to correct. and it wasnt just the rear comming out on me, it was a complete loss of traction as soon as i hit the puddle and planned my whole car was spinng or it happend so fast that there was no way i had time to do anything about it.

that'll be between $1000 and $1500 to repair, but those pics are pretty "unrevieling".

The rocker is pretty mashed, more than likely you'll want to weld in a new or fabricated section. It *can* be straightened, but for the amount of time involved you're further ahead just to snip, strip and stitch.

The door can be reapired no sweat.

And the rear bumper can be flashed in, as well as coverering the existing red paint that was left on the lower edge from the previous paint job
