cracked s4 turbo exhaust manifold... go s5?

my s4 turbo exhaust manifold has a crack in it and a bad leak.. while im in there should i go s5 manifold and turbo or stay s4 and upgrade later.

someday id like to put a bigger turbo on this thing, but im trying to get all the basics worked out first.

My exhaust is also shot. so im thinking of going with 3" but have a feeling that 2.5" is cheaper. Will 2.5" make all kinds of boost creep. i have read that 3" will. UNLESS you port the waste gate, and its only worth it to do on a s5 turbo if i am not mistaken.

any help or suggestions you have would help me. My brain hurts from all this thinking.

Depends what you want to do. If you are going to like a full to4e in 3 months just wait... or get a s4 manifold. But a s5 turbo/manifold and a to4b compressor makes for a decent hybrid turbo.

I'd use this opportunity to upgrade. You could probably get the stuff from the for sale section here or ebay.

How bad is the crack? I'd just have it welded.

Defetly go with a s5 manifold and turbo, i did this to my s4 and its really worked out awsome. Ive cured my boost creep and now i have a platform for going hybrid later for more power!! Oh and you must port it if your even considering going with any exaust system other than stock. Just so you know its pretty cheap going with this upgrade i only spent 290 for a used JDM s5 turbo and mani off ebay.

It usually costs about 5 to 600$ to do a hybrid.

where can it be "done" or do i do it my self?

some day i want this car to be as fast as my tbird.. (mid to low 12s).

but i will have to drive it to work everyday 15 miles one way. I have read the "tune" of the car make it last. is this true?
i will not have the money to go haltech or microtec for a while. im hoping the "bandaid" s-afc and fcd will be good enouf. correct me if i am wrong.

I cannot say if there is an advantage in the S5 mani over the S4 mani. I know there is an advantage in a bigger hybrid turbo and in a larger exhaust. And I know it was not a waste of time doing all I did on my S4 hardware.

I replaced my stock turbo with a Turbonetics HT18 and modified the waste gate. The gate mod is probably a mixed blessing, if not an outright double-edged sword. No boost spiking, but then again not as boostable. I'm not saying this is anything like the hottest set up, but I do enjoy significant power gains over stock, it smogs, and doesn't detonate. I also have lots of laughs blowing off fatheads in SUVs and Nissan Sentra type punks who think I'm show and no go.

My power is off at least 30HP from my previous set up because I deleted some suck-*** Greddy hardware related to fuel and boost control. However the RB 3" downpipe, with a Catco hi flow cat sectioned in, along with the RB catback exhaust, is really titz. Sounds great, looks boss (no Greddy fart cans) and is fab'd really well. I suggest you spend your money on a really robust exhaust system. I have never regretted that for a second.

Oh yeah, I also ceramic coated the ex mani, the snail, the DP with the 2,200 temp Jet Hot coating. A few have said that all that **** would burn off quick, but I tell you, the motor now has 20K on it and it still runs way cooler than stock ever did.

Now, if I can only get the thing to idle correctly! But that's a whole other story.

But is it not true that a s5 can be ported better for boost creep, makes faster boost, and can be modded to a hybrid later with greater ease?

Im thinking ill keep the s4 setup for now. get the 3" dp and straight through exhaust and FCD. I have a boost controller in the works now.

with this setup im sure im going to get a quick spool and hella boost creep. But knowing is half the battle. Ill watch it and be easy on it mostly in 4th around 4k rpms i have read.

then find a s5 and port it and upgrade it to the to4 hybrid. switch them out and bam there it is.
i have a wolbro 255, and have a fcd on order. i want a s-afc to help out after the 8.6lb clamp from the fcd.
