Of course NA to T2 swap
Of course NA to T2 swap
Long time rx7 owner new to club,my 87 NA has 170,000 miles on org., motor smokes like crazy when cold also blows smoke when reving after 4,500rpm,any ideas of problem here? blown seals??? well the T2 swap is my next choice cause motor/tranny packages are cheap I bought a mass air flow meter for an s4 what else will I need ecu+harness, will all other compoinents work? like drive line, coils, fuel pump. I can buy an exhaust system no prob...for turbo upgrade, I plan on keeping the stock intercooler no real mods just a easy reliable swap thanks all please enlighten me the lastfc
yup, sounds like it's just about time to do some motor replacing. Use the search at the top of the page, theres lots of info and a couple really good tutorials on the process of the swap, as it's pretty common.
What kind of smoke is it? Need a little more info there.
For the TII swap you'll need the TII drive train(rear end, drive shaft, halfshafts) to make it reliable, you will blow the n/a stuff pretty quick, I spose you could use the stock rear end for a while till you save up enough to buy it, but you would need to buy a Drive shaft from Mazdatrix for the TII tranny, and n/a diff.
The Coils are fine to leave, but the fuel pump should be upgraded, a FD pump is only about 50 bucks and will be fine for about 15psi. The stock N/A harness is plug and play, other than wiring in the knock control box (not many people use this when doing the swap) as long as the engine, and car are the same Series; S4 harness, and S5 engine would require you to cut and splice the injector clips, or buy S4 TII injectors, then they would be plug and play. Next is the alt, you can use the stock S4 alt from the N/A, but the S5 is a higher amperage unit.
Hope that helped a little bit, there is likely more I am missing, but if you search for "TII swap" "turbo swap" ect. you will get more info. Good Luck.

did u notice that the T2 trannys plugs didnt match the NAs tranny plugs? Like one was Male instead of female? Are those plugs prolarity sensitive? (negative has to be negtive or as long as they are all plugged in its good?)
Are the round plugs the reverse lights and the square plugs the 5th gear thing? What does the 5th gear thing do?

The harness side of the plug that has a Black/Yellow wire is for reverse. Black/Yellow is 12vdc.
The other plug has no voltage. One wire on it goes to gnd and the other wire goes to the ECU to let it know your in fifth gear so, the Split Air solenoid can be pulled in and feed air all the time to the catalytic converter split air tube (as long as your in fifth).
It's easy to figure out which set of two wires is Reverse and which set of two wires is Fifth.
Put the transmission in fifth. Get a meter out and ohm across one set of two wires then the other set of two wires. The set of two wires that you end up having continuity on is the fifth gear switch set of wires. NO voltage is put on those.
If memory serves, one set of wires on the transmission switch are red and the other set green. No matter. The two wires of one color are for one function and the other colored set of wires is for the other function.

wellllll Im having a lot of issues w/ this car the last 2 days. I cant get it to hold idle, or stay stable. I think im going to take the t2 harness out and put in my NA harness. But I dont know how I would plug in the thing above the bac, or the thing by the max idle screw.
From N/A to T2 swap, what is the best to do for the swap that I can keep for the N/A. Of course is good to have the T2 tranny but what else need to be change. Just list things that need to be change to get a good swap.
thanks
thanks
