Unhappy couple problems with my GXL

i recently bought a 90Gxl and theres a few things I need help with guys.
the automatic seatbelt thing doesn't work it just stays in the back position and makes a clicking sound when im driving and i didnt know whether i should mess with it or not...and when its idling i can smell gas and it makes a poping noise, backfiring i guess is this because its running rich or something more serious and if so is it screwing up my emissions and gas mileage. But besides that it runs like a champ! please bear with me guys its my 1st time ever dealing with a rotary.

Welcome. Definitely read thru the archives and FAQ's. For the seatbelt, take it to your Mazda deal and tell them to fix it. They have to free of charge whether the recall was performed or not. Mazda warrantied their belts for life. NA's run pig rich. Just their general nature. I'd do a tune up though just in case and it should make a difference

No auto seatbelts in Canadian models. Models without airbags were forced to have passive belts in the U.S. after a certain year.

Yes, the auto seat belts are warranteed for life - don't mess with them or the dealer may start talking ****.

Yes, NA's run rich. Do some maintenance (oil and filter change, air filter, and spark plugs), and don't worry about the smell if everything else runs good.

Welcome, and fortunately, your problems are similar to many others covered. Read the FAQs under the 2nd generation section, they're quite helpful.
