Question a couple of little probs that need fixin

Ok, ive got an 87 TII RX7 but there are a couple of tiny bugs in it.

1) When i get on the throttle i get about a .1 sec lag in between 2700 and 3100. it just kind of stops for a split second as the rpm's are going up. im not really sure what to do. it doesnt make too much of a diff, im just wondering whats goin on.

2) my turbo also isnt producing as much boost as it used to. i get about half way up the 400 mm/Hg guage. ive talked to some other RX7 owners and heard horror stories of spitting compressor blades out the exhaust ect. im not sure if i need to have the bearings in the turbo replaced or if the thing is just getting old...

well anyway thats it. if someone has any input it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Troy

Try checking for air leaks mainly the rubber ones attached to the turbo. I found a large crack in the intake duct connected to my turbo. Also when I took the intake duct off I noticed that my turbo compressor blades were dirty as hell! In fact the turbo did not totally spin freely. I sprayed SeaFoam (from Napa) in there and black crap oozed out for about 10 minutes. Then it spun like brand new and shined extremely clean. Remember some or most turbos do spit out a little grease or oil through the bearings - normal for whatever wear you may have even if it is not enough to actually burn in the engine.

Before - boost 200hg. After - Boost 330 or more hg

I also noticed that holding my car in 4th gear on the highway to 115 mph made the turbo spin up a bit faster after that. Damn dirty turbo. Bearings are tight as new though.

i'm not sure i'd worry too much about the stock boost gauge. does the car actually FEEL slower? or do you just notice that the needle doesn't rise as much as before?

my needle only goes about halfway up but it still hauls ***...so i'm happy
