Counter Weight: The Lowdown

Hey, Everyone my question is what does the counterweight exactly do? Do all motors have them? Because I was reading up on 13B-RE swaps and it talks about needing the counter weight, now I understand when swapping a auto over to a manual instead of using the torque convertor you are using the flywheel. So can anyone help me understand the counter weight issue. Please.

Thanks,
Steve

All Cosmo engines are automatic transmissions.
Therefore, the 13B-RE comes with a flex plate, and it's own counterweight.
All you need now is a lightened flywheel, cause a lightened flywheel does not have an integrated counterweight built in it.
The stock flywheel has an integrated counterweight built into it.
Without the counterweight, the engine will shake itself to pieces.
