Could we helicoil our housings?

The spark trailing spark plug hole on my front housing stripped just enough that no matter what I cant get the lpug to go in at a straight angle and I really dont want to have to pull the engine and rebuild it over a slightly stripped plug hole. It's probably only 1/8" in that it is stripped and goes at an angle and that makes me wonder if i can just lift the engine a bit to check it from eye level and clear it to go in without the angle or if I can indeed helicoil it.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

I have actually used this before on piston engines, and it does work. I know, I know, sounds ghetto, but hey, it's already damaged so what else can you do for it? Whether or not it'll come close to the cooling jackets or not, I don't know. Just be careful not to go in too far with it.

First, try chasing the threads with a tap.

That's what I plan on doing. I'm goig to lift the engine out just so I can see it all and then ill try to tap it. I had to chase it when i first got the car, never had a problem with it again until now. I've only changed the plugs twice bc of them fouling out due to running rich, but thats not an issue anymore.

I'd probably use both. You could use the backtapping tool, then use the thread chasing tool to verify the threads are straight. But maybe that's overkill... I'm just not sure how well the backtapping tool works, that's why I suggested both.

I doubt you'll be able to get that back-tapping tool in there and be able to effectively use it. Go with this one and be VERY VERY careful. Go slow, and try not to tap cross-threads.
