could i be totally fooked? experts please read. (kinda long)

well guys, i havent driven my t2 in about a week so i was going to drive around and burn off some carbon. so i get to the parking structure and start the car. "bwwum bwwum bwwum bwwum"
the car's idle is bouncing between 1000 and 1500 at a medium pace (not fast or slow) at this point i am thinking "what the ****." i try to raise the rpms to see if the slow bouncing would go away and to my suprise, it would still bounce whether i was at 2000 rpms or 3500 rpms or whatever. so after a few minutes of letting the car sit and warm up, i take a little drive around the parking structure. i was weary to go out onto the street because i felt that something was wrong. so finally, the car starts to idle smoothly around 1500 rpms. by this time, i am thinking, 'hot damn, what was that funky idle. oh well, everything is ok now" and i notice that the car is idling quietly. so i drive the car around the parking structure once again and i try to redline it to burn some carbon off of my rotors. i got it to redline once in first gear. the second time i got it to redline, the car immediately tumbled down to a very low idle (around 400-500 rpms, kind of rough.) i noticed that right when the rpms took their fall and tumbled, very rich, gassy smoke started pouring out of the exhaust. the exhaust was obviously not coolant or oil, but unburnt gas. now that the rpms took their tumble down to the low 400 rpm idle, every time i touch the gas while the car is at idle, that rich smoke comes out and the car barely has enough power to get moving.
now i know that i can do the ghetto compression test by taking out my spark plugs and turning the crank, but i havent gotten to that yet and frankly i am almost to the point where i dont even think i need to. does anyone agree with me that my engine is just about fooked? i could really use some feedback/.

Try giving a basic tune-up like blink said, check compression (hopefully not )

well, unfortunately no one around here can check compression except the mazda dealer. and it costs 100 bucks there.

go buy a tester, theyre real cheap, just make sure u take out the pin that holds the #, check for even bounces above 85 psi i think it is

Frist thing is spark plugs that could be a key player in your idle bumping up and down, did that to me so i got new plugs and it took a 20 minute drive on new plugs to finally work the kinks

You need to give that poor car a rest and offload it to me so I can whip it back into shape

It could be an fuel spark problem. Mine did the same thing with a good compression motor, just ran on one rotor due to the rear running horribly rich. Car smelled like gas, literally. You could probably hold a match to the tailpipe and watch it go up in flames.

Check for vacuum leaks. Just to rule it out, go to Autozone and buy a regular compression tester - they're like $20-30 or so. You don't have to have a special compression tester to test an RX-7 when all you want to know is if the compression is good or bad.

Anyhow, if the motor tests good, start troubleshooting from there. If not, you know what you gotta do .

well, i took out my emissions bs and the entire rats nest so i only have like 4 or 5 vacuum lines. i think i can rule out a vacuum leak cause i spent alot of time making sure that those leaks wouldn't popup again.
hey kevin, if i were to get an new engine and turbo how much would you charge me to install it. (this would be further down the road when i actually know that i need a new engine)
88se, that sounds interesting, i will get some new plugs and wires this weekend and see what happens. actually to go along with what you said, it was wet last night when i drove around and i noticed that one of my spark plug wires got caught in one of the belts (previous owner rules) and part of the core of the wire is exposed. i'm sure that's not helping my spark.
hey dale, are you talking about the simple compression tester than goes into the spark plug holes? if so i know a friend that has one.
i'm not totally thinking that i am fucked yet, i've just started running out of solutions to these problems. i'll get some wires and plugs and do the ghetto compression test this weekend.
