Could I have shorted my tach signal out?

I bought a road dyno tester that needed a tach signal input. I hooked it up to the tach signal at the ecu. This was close to my ground signal. They were connected with aligator clips just because I only needed them for a couple of runs. When I braked after the 1/4 mile, Something storted out and my stock tach died. Also, my turbo timer that reads a tach signal died. I am thinking that the signal to the dyno tester could have hit my ground and shorted out. What could this have shorted? There isnt a fuse is there? Has something like this happened to anyone else? Thanks,
Chris
BTW my car put out 170 lb-ft and 180 rwhp at 5psi. 212fwhp according to the programs conversion factor. This is with an estimated curb weight, so I will have it weighed and then show you guys the graphs.

Which plug on the ECU and what is the color of the wire? As and example: black wire with a white stripe(just an example).

I would have to look. I just used the wire that the install manual for my turbo timer said, and It seems to be working fine. But its ok now because everything is working normally
