Cost of streetporting
Cost of streetporting
What would it cost me to streetport a 13b 6 port GTU? I did a search and it came up with about 100 pages of replies, i checked about the first 15 and then quit, so if anyone could help me i would appreciate it, and im not looking for a rebuild, just a street port. Thanks

Oh yeah i know, im planning on getting apexi n1 duals, and a mariah cold air box with apexi intake, also, ive been hearing nothing but good things about pinapple racing sleaves so i might get those as well. So your saying like around 400? Wouldnt it be more since my engine wouldnt already be pulled? And the cost of labor, so im guessing somewhere around the 800's, does that sound right?

No no no, i dont need a rebuild and im not having one done. So thats why i thought it would be more expensive to have to porting done, because they would have to pull then engine.
If you do it yourself its free... Its really not all that complicated. So some research and find the do's and donts. Only cost really is a gasket kit to reassemble the engine, and any other parts you wanna replace while your at it. The actual porting can be done for the cost of whatever grinding tool you have (Die Grinder/Dremel) and the bits you need to do the griding and polishing.

you can even use sandpaper to do the street port... its not that my hard my neighboor did it on his turbo vert.. i saw him... and it took like 2 hours with sandpaper.. even faster with something electric i bet
I had Mazdatrix do the port job on my new housings (all five). I was going to attemp to do my own port but did not want to risk messing up. Mazdatrix charged me 300 for side and exaust streetport.

You'd be better of with a hammer and a chisel

On a serious note, I'd rather pay the extra to ahve it done professionaly and with a template, not jsut some guy that "Eyes" it out.
The only place I could get my port job done localy wanted $400 for all 4 ports. So I went downtown picked up a 6HP 25 Gallon compressor, die grinder, 3 carbide bits, a 450FT LB. 1/2" drive impact Gun, a 3/8 drive butterfly attachment for just over $400. I purchased the templates from mazdatrix today .. and I plan to spend this weekend porting it myself ... and I got a compressor and all the extra gadgets to show for my $400 afterwards. I already had the port money budgeted.. so I said Fug it I will do it myself and spend the money on the tools to do it.
I guess I'm just lucky. I took mine to the local shop, and he's doing a Stage II SP ( all the intakes and exhausts ) for $200 even. I delivered JUST the clean rotor housings to him, and he's got em' ported. Now... to go pick them up...
Colby, when are we gonna go pick up your housings and stuff? Also, when you gettin that kit with the 2pc Apex seals and ect.? Just wondering so we can re-build that engine and drop it in so you can DRIVE it.

How much power do you guys say a good street port will claim. i've read that a high quality job will net you up to an additional 50 - 60% more hp over stock. but that seems a little too optimistic to me.
For you guys with SP, how much hp did you get after porting.
