Corner Seal Plugs
Corner Seal Plugs
So, I'm curious to know what are the pros/cons of having or not having these in the engine. All I seem to be able to find is that you lose a little compression. I ask this because the last time my motor was built, these plugs were installed. the motor had to be pulled about 1500 miles later for a cracked plate, and was then discovered that these plugs were "catching" a little on the apex seals. I don't think the plugs are gonna be put back in. So my question...is there THAT much of a difference with or without the plugs?

If you have any questions you should PM Icemaker, Aaroncarp, or REtard..that is all.

So whatever intention you had with your .sig leaves people hanging on what your intentions are.
Joke or not, it's bad taste.

^fine fine...it worked last week, maybe that thread was deleted since then?
Anyway, whatever...I'll change it. (but it was funny)
Soooo...corner seal plugs? Important? Not so important?

Others will argue they do very little and are not needed.
At $2.xx per from the Mazda dealer, ~$25 worth of rubber seals isn't going to break the rebuild budget.

When you don't run the corner seal plugs it will cause the engine to start a little slower than with the plugs. What it does is drops compression ratio down a bit. It technically won't hurt the engine, but I definately advise running the plugs if you want the best compression.

Have you looked at the one-piece style... Maybe it's just Atkins that offers them?
They're supposed to be better for high-boost apps. and they won't "blow-out", like I guess some of the stock rubber-sealed, corner-seals do. Although I've never personally seen any rubber pieces missing upon cracking the motor open.

The majority of the time those things "blow out" is due to increasing opening timing on the intake port.
Those rubber plugs tend to fall into the intake port if you don't port carefully.
I've have never lost any of those rubber plugs (unless engine failed due to detonation) due to my porting technique (keep overlap minimized).
