Question Corksport jspec 13b?..

Anyone have any experience with the motors from Corksport?

I know that there's a big discussion going on about jspec rotaries and their reliablility. I was wondering though, if anyone has had any personal experience from different import companies. Any positive ones or negative?

Thanks,

Rob

Do they actually have some in stock? The biggest problem with Junk-SPECS, (Besides the obvious quality issues ) Is AVAILABILITY!!!!!! I would suggest calling and finding out who actually has the right series in STOCK and then ask for references on that company. GOOD LUCK...You are going to need it!

Another thing to consider. Just because you get an engine that was imported through a certain company, does that mean it is necessarily any better/worse of an engine? In other words, do you think that company has a rep. over in japan that hand picks the engines they want? How would you know which one is better than another, other than external cleanliness? remember that it's not always easy to check compression once the engine is pulled from the car, and even if you do you will not get a very accurate result. It is easy to boost numbers in a compression test by 30psi by just adding some atf to the chambers...same thing that starts a low comp. motor for us inside the car.

Now I realize that some companies offer a better warranty than others, charge more, etc. which is a good reason to compare. But, think about it...it isnt like they *built* this thing, they just ordered it from someone just like you're about to. They dont have a lot of control over what they get, nor do they know it's condition ahead of time or history. So, why does it matter what importing company you buy through?

I still say, buy the cheapest jspec you can and rebuild it (gasket kit, apex seals, oil seals, thermo pellet, port) and enjoy worry-free.

I assume you mean you'll get the jspec from dave, or you'll get a rebuild from me, cause I dont sell jspecs, nor will I ever (at least not before being rebuilt).

Thank you. I have checked out your website and have decided to rebuild my n/a myself instead and then get it ported (this is mostly due to budget issues). However, I would like to send parts in for a porting job. When I'm ready, I'll be contacting you. Also, is there anyone on this forum that can vouch for your work as far as porting goes? Any before and after dyno sheets? I would like to see that.

Thanks,

Rob

I also would like to hear feedback from anyone who has had work done by Kevin from Rotary Resurrection. I'm about 3 phone calls away from taking a drive to Tennesse and getting the TII back on the road.

Well im also a bit curious to see how it'll hold up despite all this negetivity enshrouding it. I'll be installing it next sunday so I'll see from there.

The motor came in long block format so it included all manifolds, turbo, i/c, flexplate, alt. etc etc. It also has a 6 month/6k mile warranty which is pretty good as you may know after seeing what else was offerred. I was there when they compression tested it and have thouroughly looked it over in the mean time.

From the exterior it was obvious that the motor hadn't been turned over in a while but the interior was in near perfect condition. There was very little/no oil build up in the intake manifold, looking into the housings, everything looks to be in surprisingly excellent condition including the seals. I can turn the engine from the flex plate and hear it build even "chugs" of compression. When I took my manifold apart at 100k it wasnt nearly as clean so I do believe this engine was fairly low in miles. Also I think the fact that it was automatic saved it from some stress. I'll give you an update definetly next week.

Care to share with us how this is accomplished? Do you or your representatives hand pick them before theyre purchased or shipped? What criteria do you base this upon? How do you know the history of the engines?

I have an associate in Japan that hand pics our engines. We only deal with Rotary Engines. He pics his engines when they either come to auction or via wreckers(generaly in Japan when a car is wrecked they total it out) He has a mazda digital comp tester(new comp7 upgrade for 10:1 and above engines) So he hand picks the best engines sends them over via piggy back with other importers. Also we do recieve core engines. We have 15 comming May, these are for rebuilding ONLY. We sell the parts off and use the cores. I hope this gives some insite to our business. Also in the mean time we have 4 13bt arriving on Tuesday and 2 Cosmos 13b-REs the following week. Thanks once again.
