Cooling system - running cold
Cooling system - running cold
Over the past few days my car has been running super cold, since I replaced my thermostat and installed a dual alternator pulley. The car is running at 130-145* F according to my guage in the thermostat neck, with the old thermostat it was running at least 160*, and I replaced it to try to get my temps up into the 180* range, and it just made it worse. The car also takes forever to warm up.
I am guessing my brand new OEM Mazda thermostat is sticking open, but is there anything else that can cause the car to run super cold?

I'm assuming I have OEM Mazda thermostats in my cars (I bought them from Mazdatrix), and on short trips of five to ten miles lets say, I can assure you the AutoMeter electric water temp gauge is lucky to get to the 150 mark. That's on these winter days where the temp is from 32 to 45 degrees. On the same day if I take the car out on the interstate and drive at seventy for ten or fifteen miles, then the gauge will get close to the 180 mark, but still just under that. Just my observations and I'm assuming that they are OEM thermostats, don't know for 100 percent certainty.

sorry i don't have a proper temp guage but i never see above a fifth on the stocker all winter long here in calgary, in thge summer i can get a quarter or a third up, i have done some research and no one thinks that having it run really cold all the time is bad, just harder on fuel a bit. if you know otherwise please let me know mine always trakes a long time to warm up too.
As long as its running fine i wouldn't worry about it to much. I think that main reason why they want to to run at that "certain temp" has something to do with emissions and like nathantheman said it will run a little richer causing less fuel milage..
