Cooling System Probs.
Okay, Going down The New Jersey Turnpike yesterday some dude comes flying up my side, (cha like I thought he wanted to race ), dude goes.. YOUR CAR IS SMOKING!!!!
I look out my rear and puffs of smoke are comming from under my car!~ I look down at the temp and its reading normal.
I pull off 16w Into the medowlands parking lot and the car shutsdown as I roll into the parkinglot. I get out and there is steam comming from under my car. I open the hood and there is smoke comming from the engine all over the place... I'm waiting for this thing to blow up and I'm worried. Luckily, nothing happens and I end up calling my local Rotary mechanic (ITO). He points me out to the heater hose.. and bingo its blown. I don't have the tools to get it working there and its dark out so I call for a tow.
I end up cutting the hose and reclamping it and I refill the coolant. Works great. I jump into the car for a quick run around and The temp gauge is sky rocketing... I goto the rad cap feel it.. and its really cool.. so I think maybe the temp sensor is bad.. I goto open the rad cap.. and SPLOOSH hot **** coolant all over the place, including my arm and face. I burn my hand and luckily was wearing my glasses instead of contacts.
I go in clean up and bout to call it a day when I think possibly its the thermostat. I run and pick up a thermostat and I replace the existing one.. which looks brand new almost. Fill up the coolant again.. goto start the car and it fires up and dies. I tried to save it from dying and gave it alot of gas. ( I think I flooded it.) Now she won't start.
Any Ideas.. I'm going along the right path right ?

Opinions are like........
I will assume that the engine didn't blow a seal during the overheating escapades.
Did the hose break because it was old or was there too much pressure in the system? Replace the cap and stat with genuine Mazda parts. Stant and other generics do not work.
Replace all the hoses since when one breaks, others are soon to follow.
With engine cold, top off the antifreeze and make sure that you BURP all the air out of the system.
New spark plugs will get the car running. So will ether(starting fluid) and other unflooding techniques.
Flooding will saturate the oil. Plan on an oil/filter change as soon as possible after overheating/flooding issue is fixed.

Update : thermo was good.. I just checked it with the boiling water routine..
The hose failed cause of a cut or break in it.. right near the oil filter.. probably an oem hose too.
Would not "burping" the coolant cause the car to overheat so quickly again ??!?!?!
