Cooling fan cover???

Hey guys im new to the car scene in general and i just got a 87 rx-7. Im 17 and dont know to much yet but im gettin there. I was wondering if you have to keep the plastic fan cover that protects the fan??? When i bought the car i didnt realize that it was just sitting there not screwed in or anything. I just need to know if i need to keep it and attach it or get rid of it. thanks guys

You have to keep it if you keep the stock fan, it's absolutely vital. The fan is so far from the radiator, if you removed the shroud, the fan would just suck air in from the area behind the radiator, instead of through it. I'd say the first red light you stopped for would see you overheating!

It should be secured with 2 threaded 10MM bolts on each side, a course thread 10MM bolt on the top and a plastic hold down on the bottom.

And Jason is correct, you need the shroud if you are using the stock fan, or the fan will not pull enough air through the rad to cool the car.

Yup...keep it! Congrats on the car, welcome to the forum. I suggest u spend the weekend reading the forum, and learn as much as possible about the car. Also, dont forget to use the "search" function before you ask questions...the chances are that your question has been discussed many times before. Good luck.
