coolant where it should not be
As the title states I have found a small amount of coolant in a bad spot.
My 88 T2 is undergoing a number of upgrades. Basically I have removed the upper intake and throttle body, radiator, fan, shroud, alternator, water pump assembly.
The air pump was removed my the previous owner. I have also removed the original S4 turbo, top mount IC, and related tubing, AFM and K&N cone intake. I have already installed the Racing Beat turbo back exhaust system last summer.
My upgrade objective is to replace the stock S4 turbo with a BNR stage 2 S5 turbo and matching manifold.
(Sorry this is so detailed but I want whoever posts a reply to know where I am and where I`m going. )
I have supporting fuel mods to go in, 720cc primary and secondary injectors, upgraded fuel pump and RTek 1.8. I also have a fresh built Megasquirt just not quite ready to go full standalone just yet.
The point I`m at now is everything mentioned above removed including the
ABS pump, S4 turbo and manifold. Now remember I drained the coolant just by pulling the lower hose and letting everything dump into a container for disposal.
Last night I turned the motor over by hand with a socket and ratchet, really just for the hell of it. What got my attention was a VERY small amount of coolant ejected from the rear rotor exhaust port. I`m talking about maybe a Tablespoon. I never have had a problem with loss of coolant and the car has always run very strong. Besides a bad coolant seal what else might cause this? I know there are two o-rings on the block to lower intake manifold connection along with the gauosket and I`m really praying it is something this simple. Due to the amount of tear down I`m at I can`t do a pressure test on the cooling system. What do some of you more experienced guys think? The car/motor has 63,000 original miles on it.
