Coolant Problems a HOT topic
Lots of radiator/coolant topics today.
I purchased a 90 13b vert with 125k miles on it and shipped it from PA to CA. As part of the deal, I was told that the mechanic who took care of the car would be giving it a tune up, oil change, plugs, inspection - the whole deal - before the car would be shipped to me.
It arrived with a suffocating AUX leak (burp-buuuurp-burp-burp-burrr-purb-burrpburbuuub) that I haven't fixed or troubleshooted yet, previous owner and recepits show full replacement of pipes 2 years ago.
Anyway, three weeks into ownership, this abhorrid buzzer goes off as I'm going to work, just moments after startup at 60 degrees F, and it's the coolant alarm. So I shut the thing off within 10 seconds and checked it out. Of course, this lead to a problem later, but that's for later. It was wierd because the radiator cap was very loose and the coolant level was low, obviously from leaking out or evaporating, the resevior was nearly empty, and I was freaked. I refilled everything up and took a second car to work and let it sit. I did not know why the cap was so loose, basically, it came off in my hand, so you can say I got lucky and the idiot alarm saved my ***.
Of course the engine flooded with only 10 seconds of start/stop time, and I realized this while at work. Luckly, I followed the emergency start procedures mashing the acc down for 10 seconds, stopping, then mashing it down again during start up for 10 seconds with revs at 6,000RPM and bam bam bam bam later, it's running and the light is off. So it was a happy ending.
The other anomoly with the coolant is that when I take a hard right turn (like on two wheels!) ah, the coolant and oil lights come on briefly but then go off. They have not gone off on large grades.
My 2C worth.

The coolant light shouldn't be going off in a hard turn unless it's a very extended turn. That's due to the coolant light having something like a 15 second delay before it goes off. However, if your oil is low, the oil light will come on immediately. So.. check your oil level.
