coolant problem.....

I got some bad news.... I was driving the car around a bit and noticed that it gets heated up quick...... for some dumb reason my temp and oil pressure guage aint working, but it bubbles out coolant when cranking and driving it for like 5 mins..... it has all the signs of a bad coolant seal, but I dont think any water gets inside the housing.... the car starts right up and I dont even have the touch the fuel cut off switch.... I did the coolant treatment yesterday and it sat the whole day with coolant in the motor.... but today it cranked right up, w/o even touching the cut off switch... today I put another treatment on there and lets see if it helps it...
O one question, does the radiator cap need to be on for the treatment to work??? I had the radiator car off...does there need to be pressure in the system?????

If all of the cooling system is perfect, the S5's will work at zero pressure at sea level & low stress, but for anything else, the cap needs to be on.

So how how is you cooling system configured now?
E-fan? Thermostat in? Antifreeze mix? Water wetter? Heater bypass?

If you're talking about using the plug-leak stuff, I would guess the cap should be on- with ambient pressures in the system nothing's gonna be forced into any passages...

How does your oil look? Sounds like the leak is coming from the lower 1/2 of a rotor housing...

well there is no heater in the car, so I bypassed it, and I have no thermostat on the car either.... but the car seems to heat up rather quickly and I have no Idea why my temp guage dont work anymore..... I havent checked the oil yet, but it should be brand new.... I just did the rebuild last week.... seems to me that maybe a seal got pinched....could be the lower 1/2 just for the fact that no coolant gets inside the housing....and I dont even use the fuel cut switch.. engine has had no miles since the rebuild, and maybe about 20-30 mins of runtime......

No thermostat? If I'm not mistaken, the RX-7 thermostat setup is such that without it, coolant never gets to the radiator, or at least not much, and you'll overheat in a very short time.

I'm guessing that it was probably OK when it was built, and overheated severely while running without a thermostat & no temperature gauge. Time to pull it back out & take it apart.
