Coolant Overflow
Well, it's been nearly 6-8 months or about 6000 miles since my engine has been rebuilt. Originally i had an 86 engine installed
My housins were shot so we rebuilt an 87 engine, and installed that.
The guy that did the work for me forgot one thing...
I havent had a coolant overflow bottle for about 7 months now, and i havnt been having any problems, But i cam curious, is it a MUST to have a coolant overflow bottle?. Problem was he didnt have the black piece with a nipple that mounts under the radiator cap (on thermostat housing)....
Just curious, is it a must that i have a coolant overflow bottle.
thanks guys

I would because I believe you're just going to draw air into your system (if you havent capped off those nipples). The overflows pretty important IMO because when temperatures increase, it relieves stress in the system by "overflowing" to the tank. Then when things cool down a bit and it contracts every so slighty, it draws the coolant from the overflow. Id put it back in.

So once i get air in the system i'm pretty much done for correct?
It's been a good 6-8 months since i havent had an overflow bottle.
I guess i'll get a thermostat housing nipple like my original 86 had.
