Coolant Loss?

Hello all.

This all started about a year ago when i bought a T2 that had had a water seal fail. I rebuilt the motor making sure everything i used in it was not warped or Cracked etc.

When i started it i noticed the water pump was weaping so i replaced that, then i noticed the Carpets were getting wet so i put a new Heater matrix on it as well.

So after all this i could not find any water leaks or water stains anywhere, but i found it was using water (about a cup full every week 60 miles) so i thought it could be pushing past the rad cap so that was changed too, but with no joy.

I am now thinking maybe i nicked the Water seal putting it together? but i have done a water test (check for Exhaust/Fuel in the Water) and it was fine. So i am running out of options.

Any idea's?

Cheers

Chris

Yes, I made sure they all went back.

I have been reading all the past Threads for the last few hours and came up with maybe it could be the Turbo?.

After reading all about it i have just run around the block making sure the water level is good, first time slow (off boost) and i did'nt see the Coolant light once. I then let it cool and did it again but giving it a WOT and the light came on. So i let it cool and there was Aprox 1/4 of a cup missing some of which looked like it came out of the Overflow (but not all)

So the question is would the Turbo (if it had a blown water seal) do this? I know buy the state of the Water Pump etc its had alot of presure going through the water system before the engine was rebuilt (not by me i would like to add). The question is what sort of damage has it done.

Thanks

Chris

2 things, do you have 2 radiator caps (one on elbow and one on radiator)? If this is the case sometimes pressure leaks out of the cap without the overflow bottle. Just an idea since my NA does it.

What you need to consider is that compression makes a hell of a lot more pressure than your coolant system. The more air you force in with a turbo, the more fuel you add and that is all more stuff to compress. It is possible if a seal is slightly on it's way out that it would sneak past the water seal when boosting. It's not leaking any under the hood anywhere on the turbo or anything?

Edit: onto the turbo from the manifold or any other place.

There is no ovious signs of leaking water on or around the engine, I have had it on a ramp and gone over it quite well.

I am Clutching at straws a bit as i dont fancy pulling the engine again, plus i spent hours making sure the plates where 100% flat before i built it back up.

The reason i rebuilt it in the first place was due to a Coolant seal chanel Faliure on the Cold side of the engine which is where the stupid amound of presure came from. All i can say is the amount of damage it has done running this with a bad Water seal i would not be suprised if it had'nt blown every water seal on the system.
