Coolant line upgrade?

Has anyone here done an upgrade to the coolant lines going to the turbo on a S4? When I had my downpipe 'worked on', the upper/right line came loose at the engine. Translation: the stud broke off at the flange. Can I replace it without using the studs? Maybe a stainless line with AN fittings? Can it be done and has anyone done it?

Thanks.

I think that you can. I have seen no problem to replace the old one with a steel braided one.

Whatever you do isn't going to be an "upgrade" compared to the stock steel line. Why not just fix it? It'll be a hell of a lot cheaper. Remove the broken stud and replace it, or remove both studs and replace them with bolts or cap screws.

Sounds good. I am going to attempt to repair it first. I was just looking ahead if it turns out to be a pain.

If you want to replace it, you can do braided stainless. Tap the hole on the engine for something like 3/8" NPT, then tap the water pump housing bung for 1/4" NPT. Then use the appropriate metric banjo bolt fittings on the turbo side (check Archives for thread pitch). You'll spend a few hundred dollars in hose and AN fittings to do this...
