coolant leaking out the block
sry if this is covered,but....i know i need a rebuild or swap i just need to know what causes the coolant to blow the housing seal and leak out the botom of the block(i think its by the housing in the back ||||| right there)not to crazy with the smoke idles normal but does leak coolant out the housing some where..i have talk to a guy that used to build race 13b's and he thinks that its the housing seal and water jacket seal (if i remember corectly)...
i want to know what the previos owner did to have this happen
i got the car to rebuild/ TII swap so it was cheap but i dont want to have this happen again if i can pervent it
thank you for the help in advance!

Ok, so the outer o-ring on your rear housing has let go. You said not too much smoke...are you getting any white smoke? If so, then the inner o-ring went out as well. More than likely all of this is the result of the engine being overheated, which warps the housings, allowing the o-ring(s) to push out of their grooves...typically in just a small area. If both are bad, that's probably what happened. If no smoke or no bubbles in coolant...then probably only the outer went bad. Sometimes the inner can go bad because the inner wall of the inner o-ring groove can be thin from the factory, which later cracks, allowing the 0-ring to push out in that area. This would only result in coolant leaking into the combustion area, causing white smoke out the exhaust, and coolant bubbles...but no external leaks. This isn't your case, so your housings are more than likely warped. In any case, yes it's rebuild time. You'd have to check the housings for flatness...if just the rear housing (iron) is warped, you can get used replacements pretty cheap. Good luck!

I have never heard of an OUTER coolant seal blowing. I have found in my few rebuilds that it is always an inner near the bottom where the thin cast iron piece between the coolant jackets and combustion chamber has "rotted" away.
Anybody else have an outer go and not an inner?
