Coolant leaking into the oil pan?

I decided to install this questionable engine in my street RX7 since the current engine in the car is lokced up anyway I would only be out of time not money. Well I got it in and was toping off the fluids before I started it and for some strange reason as I keep adding water to the radiator the engine oil started coming out the fill tube. I knew right then the engine was toast but since it was already in the car I thought what the hell lets start it anyway. As luck would have it the engine started right up and actually sounded pretty good. The oil pressure was pegged off the scale so I shut it down after a few seconds not to mention the fact that water circulating through the oil passages isin't good either.

What would cause a massive oil leak in the oil pan area? Could the plates or rotor housing be warped to cause this or will an o-ring failure allow that much water through to the oil pan?

Thanks.

I once had an engine do the same thing, only worse...it used ALL the coolant and ALL the oil you would give it. It smoked so bad you couldnt see the tailights at night from 5 feet away, In 5 minutes it smoked out all 5qt. of oil. I took it apart andit had a 2" diameter HOLE in the intermediate plate wall, and a smaller 1" diamter HOLE in the front housing, and the rotor was destroyed.

I don't mind that the engine is bad, I only gave $40 for it. It still had the intake on it and I wanted it to port and to also have a core engine. Once I got it home I rotated the engine and thought it still had some usable compression(I know that isin't accurate but its all I could do). I decided to install it and see what would happen. This engine didn't smoke much for the few seconds it ran but I'm sure it would have started smoking. It's kinda irritating that the thing would start up so easy considering the gas in my car is probably 9 months old. Such is life. I'll remove the engine later and tear it down for a rebuild if its good enough for that.
