Coolant Leak

Before I go spend a bunch of money, I wanted to get some ideas on what this could be. I get in my car the other morning and I had a wet spot on the drivers side floor mat. Thinking my vert top was leaking I drove and soon smelled antifreeze. It was at that time that I also noticed the temp guage went way up. So I parked it for a day.

Next day I decided to eyeball the hoses. I didn't see any holes, so I filled her up with coolant, bled it and looked for holes. Nothing. So I took it for a short drive and sure enuff it started to get hot again. I didn't see a bigger spot on the floorboard and nothing on the pavement. Am I dealing with just a bad hose, or am I looking at a heater core replacement? Thanks.

Dan

If I had to guess, you do have the classic symptoms of a bad heater core, especially if you're getting good whiffs of antifreeze in the cabin...

Well I was thinking the smell was due to the wet spot on the mat. I guess I'll take a few hoses off tomorrow and check it all out.

Thanks

I use distilled water in my cooling system...this keeps hard water deposits from forming in the radiator cores and or the heater core...also, its good to run your heater wide open for a few minutes while driving say once a month to keep water from just sitting there and corroding the metal...
