The pre formed hose that comes off of the BAC valve (the really big one, i think 6/8") broke into pieces on me. Can I just replace it with some high pressure fuel line and put some spring clamps on it or do I need to get a special mazda hose to replace it?

you can get coolant line that size, fuel hose is not made to pass coolant. it way work temporarily though.

 

thats what i used..... had it that way for almost a year... no problems at all.....

but karack is right, it should only be a temporary fix... i mjust too lazy to change it to the right hose

The last time I looked........the large line on the bac is not a coolant line. It's a air feed line. Then again, it's been quite a while since I've had to look under my hood.

 

it may work fine but as i said it is not made for coolant, it sais fuel line on it, last i checked fuel and coolant were not the same.

 

I use fuel line to fix automatic transmission cooling lines. It will last for years. If it will pass gasoline, it will pass coolant.

 

i've used fuel lines for transmission cooler lines, the hose blew off a couple of days later. i always suggest using the right part for the right application, not all rubber is made to pass all liquids.

 

lol, he said 6/8", but i agree with what was said above, the large line routes back to before the intercooler and I just used some 3/4" tube from shucks (kragen checker)

 

Oh man...

"Fuel line" means it's suitable for fuel, it does not mean it's not suitable for anything else. Fuel is a lot harder on rubber compounds than coolant and water will ever be.

before you say it was under too much pressure or some ****... the hose was soft, i could almost put my finger through it. it said 'fuel line' on it, it should be able to handle the 15psi the cooler lines pass easily.

 

That's interesting to know. But we are talking about water and coolant, which is quite different.

guess 3000 stall and city driving is enough to break the hose already

i come here to help other people and post my opinion and not fact, i do not pretend to know everything about everything but some people think they do and talk down to those who they feel are wrong. so many people are willing to take what they see at face value and not put themselves in other people's shoes and see what they should see.

i hate drama, i have to deal with it moderating other large boards but live and learn.

and oil is a lot different to rubber than other fluids. thats why coolant hoses under oil leaks go out.

My two cents worth on the coolant vs fuel question: I tried using fuel injection hose instead of water hose when I got the bright idea to change the little "L" shaped water hose under the UIM with a slightly longer piece of high pressure fuel hose. The longer hose was a whole lot easier to put on...but it didn't last a year. I was surprised, but could only conclude that it was a bad idea. Maybe fuel line isn't made to handle hot fluids.
