coolant gauge malfunction!?

so i have a 88 gtu converted to a t2 and i just replaced the temp sensor that gives you a signal to the dash. so my situation is when the sensor is plugged or unplugged with the car on the on position the gauge goes to H (overheating), but the car is cold. so is the cluster bad or am i missing something?

Unplug the sensor, unplug the cluster and check the wire to see with a digital multi-meter if it is resting at ground. If it is, it is pinched or not connected correctly. If it is not, then you have a bad gauge or bad sensor.

And your bump has been deleted. Bumps are forbidden here in the 2nd gen technical section.

Did you use a Turbo harness on the engine? That could cause the problem also.
