Question coolant feed/return for turbo?

Hi,

I tried searching but not coming up with exactly what i want to know. I have a 12a that I am turboing that is in my 85. I was told that I can just get a TII water pump housing, drill and tap one bolt hole, mount it and then i will be set as far as coolant feed and return lines. So i was under the impression that there were nipples/holes (2) in the housing for the inlet and outlet. I was about to buy one from a forum member and he says that there is only one and that it looks like the return from the turbo and the the feed comes off of the LIM on the second gen turbo cars?

Basically is there a feed and return on the TII housing?? Im thinking now that i would be better off just drilling and tapping/ welding a bumg or two on my current housing and or coolant lines somewhere.

Thanks

Josh

the stock turbo is fed water through the rear rotor housing via the lower intake manifold, same ports that heat up the LIM on the FB but there is no port on the FB LIM to feed water out, so not sure there for you. the outlet goes into the lower radiator hose neck on the water pump housing on the T2, you can use that same housing with a little work.

so i think i might be better off just tapping my own feed and return into my 12a housing... thats what it seems like would be easier.. since i will have to drill and tap a hole in the front cover anyways this way i will only have to take off the WP housing? do you agree?

The T2 water pump housing has a 3/8" barb on it for coolant return only.

they're blocked off in the pics but I hope that clears things up

you can also just tap into the rear iron where the coolant nipple is to feed the AWS system, there is no port in that spot on a 12A though but it can still be drilled and tapped. there isn't a whole lot of spots on the side of the motor to get water from unless you can find a spot to get water from the thermal exchange in the LIM.
