Cooked Rotary motor

Well today guys, I burnt up my motor. Getting on it on the on-ramp, then my temp. gauge skyrockets. Get off and stop, then smoke starts billowing out. Thermostat isnt tight and all coolant is gone. Plus coolant coming out of the waterpumo, NOT GOOD. Pulled the spark plugs, we got coolant in both front and rear. REALLY NOT GOOD.

Just thought Id share the bad news, I'll keep you guys informed on what happened when I get it all apart.

Sounds like the dreaded coolant seals. Guess it's turbo time

Thats not going to happen. Im going to fix the problem and get her going again. Otherwise its not going to be worth anything. Motor is freshly rebuilt by the way as of the first of the year.

When I got it opened up, a found out that a destroyed all of my coolant seals The center housing had a piece chipped off between the combustion chamber and the waterjacket so I needed to get a new center housing. Ecentric shaft endplay was way too much so I needed some new bearings for that. Luckly I have a spare motor to gets parts from. All of my old seals and springs were in good shape though besides the coolant seals.

While I was in there did alittle more porting on the center housing. I figured the that porting that alittle more would increase breathing but not increase the intake duration. And of course alittle more exhaust work aswell. My father found time to beat the sleeves out alittle to make them like TII sleeves, I already have the diffuser gone. And last but not least I plugged the EGR hole in the intake.

I took alot of pics because I did my rebuild as a my senior project for highschool so I could get an intensive studies diploma, I even got some pics of what a year and a half will do to a pacesetter header. But they need to be loaded up.

BTW the problem was the waterpump, so I got a rebuild one to replace it. Anybody have any suggestions on break-in?

Im planning on 500miles then change oil, the work my way into the higher rpms.

Did you check to make sure the housings/plates were flat? That kind of abuse would almost certainly mean warpage...

No bad warpage, still withing spec. If I had a spare motor lieing around dont I would have used those housings if I needed to.
