convertible top replacement
convertible top replacement
Has anyone replaced the convertable top on the 2nd gen model?
The existing top has a couple tears on each side where the top joins the body and it looks like time to replace it or get the interior all wet every time it rains.
Is there a guide or tech article covering steps necessary when replacing the top?
Or if anyone has replaced one do you have any tips on how to proceed and what pitfalls to avoid?
Any and all sugesstions are appreciated
Thanks,

i started on it myself .. but gave up and had a pro do it .. was hard .. and looked hard.
it's doable .. but it's also a chance you break the fabric when you put it on, its a realy tight fit on the "targa" .. etc.

thanks gugge.
When you tried did you have a manual or any kind of instructions? Or did you just start taking things off?
I would like to give it a shot but would prefer some guidance as to the order to proceed.

Is the rest of your top in good shape? If so you can make patches to fit over the ripped part. You can get some matching material from an upholstery shop. Cut to fit, glue it on and put a bead of 3M 5200 black adhesive around the edges for a very strong repair. I actually sewed mine on but I'm not really sure I had to go thru all that.
It might not be beautiful, but it will buy you some extra time to decide if you really want to invest the $1500 to have a new top put on.
