convertible top q

so i put my top down before going out for a drive yesterday, with no problem. today when i went to put the top down i got no response, no beep or anything. however, when i push the switch forward it does beep. anyone know what the problem could be? i've noticed over the last couple of weeks that the top has had a rough time getting down, but if figured that was just due to rusty joints. if anyone has any insight it would be much appreciated.

Ehh my vert's done this as well. I just wiggle the top switch a few times until it finally goes down/ up. The contacts are dirty and worn, like the other switches become in the car. I haven't really tried cleaning mine since the car doesn't move. I guess give that a try and then see if it acts up on you again.

thats happened to me a few times... its most likely the limit switches on the motors. IIRC, the passenger side motor has the limit switch that controls going down (tells the motors when the top is fully down), which is the one thats sticking or getting dirty and causing your problem. It doesnt hurt to clean them both tho, since its much better to have the top get stuck up than down. The switch is mounted on the outside of the motor, between the motor and the door, and is actuated via an adjustable cam-type arrangement. You prob dont need to adjust this, just get some brake cleaner and thoroughly spray the switch, click it a bunch of times wiht your finger, spray it some more, and wait for 10 min to make sure all the stuff has evaporated before tryign the top to see fi it works.

On my '90 the parking brake has to be pulled up for the top to activate or it will just beep when you push the button. Maybe your forgetting that?
