convertible exhaust questoins
ok so i have an 89 vert and its an auto. i know i know it sucks that its auto, but it wont be for long.....anyways i was looking for a header back system for it and on the racing beat site it keeps saying that the exhaust wont work on an automatic. so my question is what is the difference between manual and automatic that makes the exhaust not fit? and if i convert mine to manual can i just buy a manual exhaust system?

Interesting point. I think that something on the car that is part of the automatic tranny interferes with the heads mounting.
Another question while we're at it, how come the convertible parts are always different! I always see **** that says it works on 86-92 rx7 and then in brackets (except convertible).

Honestly I can't see anything from the tranny itself interfearing with the exhaust. There must be something else on the engine itself (go figure what it is...) that interfears with the exhaust. If anything, your exhaust thats from the auto should fit fine if all your replacing is the tranny.
anyone confirm this?

I can't tell you either. I took my exhaust out three weeks ago when I pulled the motor. I can't see anything close to the exhaust. Icemark will know. He has an 89 vert that he modified.

yeah the cross member is a bitch. My 3 inch DP sits right on it and sometimes rattles like a bitch. I am going to get under the car and notch out the cross member a little bit with a dremel. But I would say go ahead and buy what ever header setup you want and if it doesn't fit right just have a exhaust shop cut it and make it fit. For a NA I am more of a fan of the stock manifold to a custom down pipe myself.
