Converted BLUE TII to manual windows this weekend! Weights listed...

I finally was able to convert my '87 TII (blue on blue) to manual windows this weekend. I have been wanting to do this for the 3 years I have had the car (had a '86 base before).

Thank you Madzumi for supplying the S5 manual window interiors. It was a pleasure to do business w/ you!

I love the simplicity (unplugged door harness under dash and removed from door), reliability, lighter weight, keyless operation and sportiness of manual windows (and no accessories in general).

Power window interior door panel, arm rest, switches, regulator, wire harness and extra screws over manual window- 12.75 Lbs.

Manual window interior door panel, arm rest, regulator and handle- 8.10 Lbs.

So, over 9 Lbs saved for both sides.

Not a big weight savings at all, but if you are obscessed w/ lightening your 7 you know every bit counts. Being obscessed is the only way you are going to make a big difference in weight

If you like the "luxury" of power windows this is obviously not for you. I am posting weights because I have read so many different opinions/theories on this very forum about this. I have even read that power windows weight less...

Yep, still have full set of Blue PW door interiors. I will take pics of them and get back to you!

Vultures? Nah, you have to strike while the iron is hot!

Thanks for posting weights- not going to do this myself, just a reference for the naysayers who don't have any facts. Now that we know the weight savings, we can make an educated decision.

Clean your switches. The motors almost never go bad.

Since I went from rollups ('88 SE) to power windows (TII), I guess I'll staty with power windows. But if my TII didn't have it, it would actually wouldn't really bother me at all.

I actually find the window switches a bit weird to use (if you don't think about it.) Push and pull is probably why.

They make perfect sense to me-

Pull up = windows go up
Push down= windows go down

simple.

Nah, I've been used to pushing for up and pushing for down on every other car my family or I have owned. I guess it became a habit.

It doesn't really bother me. Just sometimes I'll mistake it for other type of switches when I'm driving and totally not thinking about it.
