convertable motor close but not open
So, my "88 convertable has been a blast, but recently, when I go to open the top - nothing happens. If I move the electric top switch to close, the warning buzzer sounds (beep - beep_ and the motors come to life. But to close it, I must first open it, and there is no sound or action when I try to do that. I took it to a dealer and asked for an electrical inspection related to the top. They said the switch in the dash was good and probably good to the motor, but it would run me much more money to take the next step and check at the motors, so they felt it was the motors. I bought two recking yard motors, and replace both of them. No change at all. It is as if I had done nothing.
Can't find a schematic for the top motors in any guide. The top electrical would help as then I would have some idea as to how to diagnose and test.
Anyone have any ideas? Are their relays I don't know about that fail after 110,000 miles, or do I need to think manual top from here on out.
Thanks

try testing back at the motor to see if you're getting voltage when you are opening, should solve it that easy...or you could just jump 12 volts to it and see what the motor does, then reverse polarity, might try that

Are you operating the switch with the parking brake on??? The switch must have the parking brake on to operate, otherwise you just get a fast beep. This will also happen if you have a bad parking brake on switch.
There is a 6 pin white diagnostic plug for the top on the passengers front shock tower. You can test both voltage for the roof/top switch and the output to the roof/top motors there (as well as jumper the power to the open or close wires).
