confusing drivability issue

not sure what is causing this
but at mild accerlation like city driving at about 2800 ( NOT 3800) the car kinda hesitates then picks up speed like normal

under cruise at about 2200-2700rpms the car sometimes is a little jerky

there is a spot on the throttle where I just touch the gas it jerks but only does that on initial throttle

also if I am trying to deacel but still have the throttle cracked a tad it backfires
also when doing this it is the same as above where there is a small jerk

if I try to go from no throttle to 1/4+ throttle it just sits there and bucks for a little bit kinda like a noob trying to start a manual car

I have checked the TPS and this is what is weird
when doing it by ohms and set it for 1000k it is worse then when I do it by the voltage method
when I set it at .98v it does ok but it is still has the problem
also when checking the volts running through the TPS it seems one side the voltage goes up and down as the throttle is opened/closed
the other wire stays at a stead 4.8v I think
is that normal?

and what is this thing I hear clicking when I first touch the throttle when the car is not running but set to on?

the O2 sensor is fairly new (under 5k miles I think)

any ideas guys please it is starting to bother the hell out of me

Try slowly sweeping the TPS throughout its range of movement and measuring the voltage. With a TPS I had, I found that it worked well full on full off (the standard tests), but the output voltage jumped irraticly in between full on, full off. Replaced the TPS and problem solved.

Not know about the problem.

BUt at least your belly pan is on the way.

Mazdaspeed7 I think has a tps for you for cheap if you need a new one, cause it sounds screwy.

if you want the tracking # for your package you can pm me. I couldn't find a box big enough for it so I got creative with a slightly smaller one.

Good luck.

What he said. The best way to do this is with a scope, but most people don't have one. So a regular analog voltmeter works well as a substitute.

yeah all I have is a volt meter

just out of curiosity what is the input voltage supposed to be going to the TPS?

I am almost wondering if something else is going wrong here other then the TPS but maybe something with the wiring

5V. But the TPS is almost without a doubt the problem.
