confused about coolant seals

i have an 88 n/a at first i thought i had a coolin problem replaced rataior, and that darn $250.00 fan clutch.put a new mazda tstat in .
runs fine as long as you dont let sit and idle, going down the road its fine but as soon as you stop .it boils all the water out.
now i dont get water on the roters no antifreeze smell out the ex pipe .
what i need to know is if a coolant seal is blown i would get antifreze out the exhust and air in the coolant system right ? but all im geting is a cooling system that is eather boiling over {like mabye a bad fan clutch} or air geting in to the system ? help please thanks ashley

Is it boiling out of the cap or out of the overflow bottle? Because sometimes if the seal is bad it will just push all coolent into the overflow and not back into the rad.

yes when this happens it does blow/or boil water out of the bottle .
and when you fill the system back up it takes aprox 3/4 gal of coolant

If it overheats when you aren't moving, its probably the fan clutch. You can get them for cheap at junkyards.

Have you checked the compression of the motor?

Correct me if I am wrong gurus, but won't low compression cause a car to run hotter??

there is another possiblity. when i tore down an 13b na i had laying around that blew a rear rotor, the coolant passages in the back by the freeze plugs where damn near clogged with really old nasty coolant that turned into almost a gel. not sure how youd fix that though...

That would be from mixing the Green, and Dexcool (red) coolant, it makes a grey clay type gel. Not good.

have you flushed the system by chance? you will know if the fan clutch is engaged because you will hear it pushing air. if its free wheeling when the engine is warmed or hot, there is a chance it is bad. if you coolant seals were bad ther would be coolant on your plugs and white smoke from the exhaust. take the radiator cap off, hold the engine at 3 or 4K and look for bubbles in the coolant. if you have bubbles in the coolant, you have a bad coolant seal.

you can also get that grey gel from oil being in the coolant as well.

No, that would look like Milk. The gel is very different.
