Cone shaped AFM?

I have a '90 GXL with an HKS intake. I took the HKS filter off the other day to build a cold air box. I looked into the intake pipe where the filter was attached, expecting see a hollow tube, but there was this cone-shaped thing blocking the pipe near the entrance. Is this the AFM? It has a wire connection on the outside and would move back and forth when pushed, but it seems awfully restrictive. Do they make less restrictive AFMs? It seems like the pressure required to move the cone would kill HP.

What you are describing seems to be the AFM. Its like a spring loaded rounded thing that can be pushed in and out depending on how much air goes through it. From what I hear its not really that bad.

LOL you've obviously never seen a s4 AFM it has a larger spring loaded door your AFM isn't that bad, they don't make any aftermarket AFMs for our cars either, altought i've heard of a company that sells Hot Wire type AFMs, such as the ones in mustangs, that are a higher flow and pretty much an unrestricted hollow tube, other option is a standalone and a map sensor

I believe that afm was from a 20b cosmos engine. We have about 5 of those motors at my work and they all have that style of afm.

There are so many things wrong in this post, I dunno where to start...

That big black plastic thing with the electrical plug is the entire AFM.
The sliding cone is part of the AFM.

The Zenki AFM is not more restrictive than the Kouki AFM; if anything, the Kouki AFM is more restrictive.

Yes, the Cosmo AFM looks the same, but it's not the same part.
